What were they trying to resolve:

Mr Cox approached us with a unique challenge: how to reduce energy costs for his holiday cottage whilst contributing to environmental sustainability. Bi-facial Solar Panels

What was the solution?

The thatched roof presented immediate practical limitations for solar panel installation. Thatched roofs require specialist consideration due to their organic materials, irregular surfaces, and heritage value. Rather than compromise the cottage’s character or structural integrity, we needed to think creatively about alternative installation locations.

Our site survey revealed the perfect solution: a recently renovated corrugated barn situated nearby on the property. This barn had been newly sheeted specifically in preparation for the solar installation, providing us with an ideal foundation for the system.

What was the result?

We selected high-powered bi-facial solar panels to maximise the system’s efficiency. These advanced panels offer significant advantages over traditional single-sided panels:
Bi-facial Technology Benefits: Unlike conventional panels that only capture sunlight from one side, bi-facial panels utilise reflected light from the roof surface below. This technology can increase energy generation by up to 20% compared to standard panels, particularly effective on light-coloured surfaces like the corrugated barn roof.
Premium Panel Specification: We installed 12 x 440W high-powered bi-facial all-black solar panels, totalling 5.28kW of generating capacity. The all-black design ensures the installation maintains an aesthetically pleasing appearance whilst delivering exceptional performance.
Landscape Configuration: The panels were arranged in a landscape orientation and centralised on the roof, creating a balanced, professional appearance whilst optimising the available roof space.

Mr Cox now enjoys reduced energy costs, additional income generation, and the satisfaction of contributing to a more sustainable future – all whilst preserving his thatched cottage’s character and charm.
