What were they trying to resolve:
Our client was undertaking extensive renovations to their park home and were looking into the possibility of installing solar & battery storage at their property in Somerset. The challenges involved the non-standard roof covering and how we could install the array with the space available. The park home featured a distinctive profile metal roof with narrow dimensions, creating unique installation challenges compared to traditional residential properties.
During our initial site survey, we noted the limited south-facing roof area and the lightweight construction typical of park homes, which required special consideration for structural loading. The client was particularly keen to maximise energy independence while maintaining the aesthetic appeal of their newly renovated property.

What was the solution?
We landed on a bespoke in-roof solar panel design for the client and had to handpick a panel model with certain dimensions to fit with the distance we had between the ridge to eaves. This involved striping back the roof covering including removal of the ridge. Then laying the trays into the roof and flashing the lateral sides. The ridge got refitted to complete the watertight seal. Our technical team selected compact high-efficiency panels specifically suited to the restricted dimensions, ensuring optimal energy generation despite the space constraints.
The in-roof system eliminated the need for traditional mounting rails, creating a more streamlined appearance that complemented the park home’s renovated exterior.
What was the result?
The client received a 9-panel system with much of the south aspect consisting of the panelled array making a slick watertight run from ridge down to gutter. Accompanying this is a hybrid inverter and 3kw battery storage system to allow the client to benefit from the stored energy when required. This system took a lot of design and adaptation however it shows it does not matter what property you have, we will find a solution that works.
The battery storage solution was specifically selected for its compact dimensions, allowing installation in the home’s utility area without sacrificing valuable living space. The client now enjoys the ability to use stored solar energy during evening hours and cloudy days, with the system’s smart technology automatically prioritising self-consumption over grid export. This bespoke installation demonstrates our commitment to delivering renewable energy solutions for non-standard properties throughout the South West.
