Before the team arrives
Make access easy
If possible:
keep driveways clear for vans and materials
ensure access to the consumer unit and inverter location
unlock side gates if roof access is via the rear
clear space around the inverter, battery, and meter area
Let neighbours know, if needed
Scaffolding and roof work can attract attention. A quick heads up is often appreciated.
Pets and security
If you have pets, consider keeping them away from work areas. For businesses, confirm site rules and sign in procedures.
What happens during the installation?
Arrival and safety checks
The team will confirm the scope of works, do a quick safety review, and confirm where equipment will be installed.
Roof work, mounting and panels
Mounting systems are fitted first, then panels are installed and connected. Any optimisers or microinverters are fitted if they are part of your design.
Electrical work, inverter and battery
Cables are routed and the inverter is installed. If you have a battery, it will be installed and configured to match your system.
Testing and commissioning
Your system is tested and commissioned. Monitoring is set up so you can view performance.

A good handover includes:
how to use the monitoring app
what normal generation looks like in different seasons
how battery charging and discharge works, if installed
where isolators are located and what they do
what to do if you notice unusual performance
You should also be told what ongoing support is available and how to request servicing.
