Home EV charger grants – the current position
The OZEV (Office for Zero Emission Vehicles) Electric Vehicle Homecharge Scheme, which paid up to £350 towards a home EV charger, closed to new applicants in April 2022 for most homeowners. It was replaced by targeted schemes for specific groups.
As of September 2026, the following home charging grants are available:
EV chargepoint grant for renters and flat owners
If you rent your home or live in a flat, you may be eligible for a grant of up to £350 towards a home EV charger. The grant is available to tenants and flat owners who cannot access the standard home charging route. Your landlord’s permission is required for rented properties. Apply through an OZEV-approved installer, M&E Contrax can advise on eligibility at the survey stage.
Social housing tenants
A separate grant scheme supports EV charger installation for social housing tenants in specific circumstances. Contact your housing association for eligibility details.
Owner-occupiers in standard houses
There is currently no government grant for home EV charger installation for owner-occupiers living in standard residential properties. The most cost-effective route remains installing a home charger alongside other electrical work, a consumer unit upgrade, solar installation, or rewire — to share mobilisation costs.
Workplace EV charger grants – the Workplace Charging Scheme
The Workplace Charging Scheme (WCS) is the main grant available for Devon businesses installing EV charging. It pays a contribution of up to £350 per socket, for up to 40 sockets per applicant. The scheme is open to eligible employers, charities, small accommodation businesses, and public sector organisations.
To be eligible, your business must:
Have off-street parking at the premises
Be registered in the UK
Use an OZEV-approved installer for the installation
Apply for the grant before the installation is completed
The WCS is designed for workplace charging, EV points installed for use by employees and fleet vehicles during working hours. It is not intended for public-facing charging infrastructure.
For a Devon business installing 10 sockets under the WCS, the grant contribution is up to £3,500. For a larger installation of 40 sockets, the maximum contribution is £14,000. The grant is applied through an approved installer and deducted from the installation cost, you pay the net amount.
