Frequently Asked Questions
Not always, but batteries can increase self-consumption by storing surplus electricity for later. We’ll advise on the best approach for your usage and goals.
Adding a battery like the Tesla Powerwall 3 transforms your solar setup into a smart, money-saving energy solution. It lets you store unused solar energy to power your home at night or during blackouts, giving you greater control, lower bills, and peace of mind. Plus, when your battery is full, any extra energy can be sold back to the grid, earning you money while helping power your community. It’s a smarter, greener investment that maximises your solar savings every day.
Yes. Solar panels generate electricity in daylight and can perform consistently across the seasons. Output is typically higher in summer and lower in winter, which is normal for UK solar.
It is generally recommended to service your solar system annually. Regular maintenance ensures the system operates efficiently, prolongs its lifespan, and can help prevent costly repairs.
Solar panels require minimal maintenance. We recommend a simple inspection and cleaning once or twice a year to ensure they are free from dirt or debris that may affect performance. At M&E Contrax, we also offer ongoing maintenance services to ensure your system operates at peak efficiency.
The solar panels produce DC (Direct Current) energy which feeds into an inverter, The inverters job is to change that energy from DC to AC (Alternating Current) which we use in our homes then it will distribute this to your house loads in real time. If you are producing more energy than your house is using at that moment the excess will naturally export to the grid (the part you can get paid for) Alternatively if you have battery storage your excess energy will divert into the battery charging this up. If your battery becomes fully charged, then the system will return to export excess energy to the grid. In the event you are using more energy in your home then you are producing from your panels then the extra power will be supplemented from your battery (if you have one) or via the grid as usual. You system will always prioritise the solar and batteries to supply you power before calling on the grid.
