WJ operates a nationwide network of depots and offices. Their Tremayne House facility at Westpark in Wellington, Somerset, is one of their regional operational bases, housing a mix of office functions, workshop and maintenance facilities, and vehicle fleet management for their South West operations. The electrical installation serving this facility reflects the diverse operational demands of a leading highways contractor: office and IT systems, workshop machinery, vehicle charging infrastructure, and maintenance equipment.
What they needed
WJ Group required a full EICR across their Tremayne House facility covering 162 circuits. As a business operating in the highly regulated highways sector and carrying obligations to clients including National Highways and local authorities, maintaining verifiable compliance records across all their operational sites is an important part of their governance and health and safety framework.
The inspection needed to cover all fixed wiring and electrical infrastructure across the site, including workshop and operational areas as well as office functions. The report needed to be completed to NICEIC standards and documented against BS 7671 18th Edition, producing a certificate and full inspection record suitable for their compliance documentation.
What the inspection involved
Andy Bradbury from M&E Contrax carried out the full 162-circuit inspection at Tremayne House. The site has a mix of electrical loads that are typical of a highways operations depot: single and three-phase distribution serving workshop equipment, vehicle maintenance areas, and compressed air systems alongside standard single-phase office and welfare circuits.
A schedule of circuits was agreed with the WJ site management team before the inspection to plan which areas required de-energising during testing and to coordinate with operational requirements in the workshop and vehicle maintenance areas. The full inspection was completed with visual examination followed by dead and live testing of all circuits, distribution boards, and protective devices. Earthing and bonding was inspected and tested across the installation.

What we found
The installation at Tremayne House was assessed across all 162 circuits. The report produced a comprehensive record of the condition of all fixed wiring and electrical infrastructure across the site. All findings were classified using the standard C1, C2, C3, and FI code system and documented with clear descriptions of each observation and the relevant BS 7671 reference.
For a facility of this age and operational use, the inspection identified some areas typical of commercial properties with mixed-age infrastructure, including observations relating to circuit labelling and protective device coordination in areas of the installation that had been extended or modified over time. These were clearly documented in the report with appropriate classifications and recommended remedial actions.
The result
On completion, M&E Contrax issued WJ Group with their full 162-circuit EICR report and NICEIC certificate. The report provides a complete baseline assessment of the Tremayne House electrical installation, documented to BS 7671 18th Edition standards and verified by a NICEIC-approved contractor.
The certificate gives WJ Group the compliance documentation they need for their internal health and safety records, their insurers, and their obligations as a major supplier to National Highways and local authority clients. The inspection also identified a clear roadmap for any recommended remedial improvements, giving the WJ facilities team a prioritised action list for future maintenance planning.

WJ Group’s Wellington depot is a working highways operations site with active workshop and vehicle maintenance areas running alongside office functions. Coordinating the inspection across a site with this range of electrical loads required good preparation with the site management team.
